‘Cowboy’ Cerrone Delivers for Hometown Fans at UFC® 150

by Jason Parks August 13, 2012 04:38 PM

Performing as a fighter in the UFC® comes with plenty of pressure. A grueling training regimen is required to maintain top-notch conditioning for the day a fighter squares off with his opponent. After all of the preparation, they must defeat another elite athlete in front of 20,000 people just to keep their championship dreams alive. Throw into the mix that all of your family and friends are in the crowd and, well, that’s the pressure that Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone had to live up to.

Cerrone defeated Melvin Guillard at UFC® 150 even with all of the pressure that came with fighting in the co-main event in his hometown of Denver, Colorado. Cerrone withstood a nasty early flurry from Guillard and scored a knockout at 1:16 of the first round. ‘Cowboy’ earned the “Knockout of the Night” award and picked up the “Fight of the Night” honors as well.

“Fighting at home in Denver is what I’ve been dreaming of all these years,” stated Cerrone. "This was the craziest round I’ve ever been a part of. I had to dig deep but I was able to prevail.”

The second straight victory for ‘Cowboy’ puts him at the center of conversation as a championship contender in the lightweight division. "The fight I'd like next is Pettis," Cerrone said.

If any fighter can live up to the pressure of reaching a title bout, it’s SafeAuto Fight Team member Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone.
