How Expensive Is It to Insure a Rap Star’s Cars?

by Dan Cawrey December 16, 2010 04:50 PM

It ain’t easy being a rapper. Sure, you’ve got money, fame and musical ability. But in order to keep appearances, rappers need to have nice clothing, expensive jewelry, and most importantly, ridiculously awesome cars. These cars are not only pricey, but cost a ton of money to insure. How much? Read on.  Want cheap auto insurance rates? Avoid buying these rides:

Nelly – Ford Flex

It’s night. I’ve got sunglasses on. Because I’m Nelly.

Nelly likes SUVs, and the Ford Flex is an interesting choice. Most rappers usually like more glamorous cars, but the low-slung Flex is a different type of vehicle. It’s like a cross between a station wagon and a truck, which is good when Nelly needs to take the kids to school (he’s got two).

Cost to Insure Per Year: $1,203.54

Dr. Dre – Hummer H2

clip_image002[4]

Just in case you forgot about Dre.

We all know that Dr. Dre doesn’t mess around – the dude always looks kind of angry. So it’s no surprise that Dre rolls on a Hummer H2, just to make sure that if you’re in front of him, you feel totally intimidated. (Just like with medical doctors.)

Cost to Insure Per Year: $1,977.96

Andre 3000 – Cadillac Escalade

clip_image002[6]

Either Out or Kast (we can’t remember which)

Andre 3000, which sounds like the name of a really cool robot, is actually one half of the rap duo Outkast, in case you forgot. This guy enjoys American luxury with the Escalade, and he’s so excited about his SUV that his hair is standing on end! Either that, or someone just rubbed a balloon on his head.

Cost to Insure Per Year: $1,851.02

Snoop Dogg – Chrysler 300

clip_image002[8]

The odds are 3:1 that Snoop is not legally safe to drive in this picture.

Snoop likes to drive and show off a totally modded out Chrysler 300 from a company called DUB. That sounds like a perfect name for a company that customizes rap stars’ cars. And Snoop likes it, although he usually seems pumped about everything. Hey, what other celebrity can wear sweatpants in public?

Cost to Insure Per Year: $1,342.80

50 Cent – Lamborghini Murcielago

clip_image002[10]

“I always drop the top.“

Yep, 50 Cent prefers Lamborghini as his daily commuting vehicle. How do we know this? One day he was late to work, and was ticketed by the police for speeding. But if you’re 50 Cent, you don’t care. You just want to get rich or die trying. (We think he’s definitely got the “rich” part down.)

Cost to Insure Per Year: $2,980.17

T.I. – Dodge Challenger

clip_image002[12]

We just want to know how much the wheels cost to insure.

T.I. likes the Dodge Challenger, but he’s added some custom 22” tires in the front, and 24” ones on the back. With T.I.’s criminal record – he’s done three stints in jail – we’re not sure this is the best “low-profile” vehicle to steer clear of the police, but it does look pretty sick.

Cost to Insure Per Year: $1,912.74

Chris Brown – BMW 645

clip_image002[14]

Chris Brown, in happier times.

His career has taken a nosedive after the charges of felony assault on ex-girlfriend Rihanna, but he’s still got the money to drive a BMW 645 with 22” wheels. Normally, BMW would be happy for the free promotion, but in Chris Brown’s case, they’re probably wishing he’d trade in for a Honda.

Cost to Insure: Uninsurable with Chris Brown driving.

Cribbs Is Fast On the Field, Faster in His BMW X6

by Elie Deshe April 26, 2010 09:31 AM

img_cribbs1 Joshua Cribbs is faster than most men. After signing a three-year, $20 million contract extension with the Cleveland Browns, the wide receiver/kick returner/wildcat quarterback is richer than most men too.  So what does a big and fast guy on the field drive when he is off the field? Easy, a 2010 BMW X6. Cribbs spoke exclusively to the Play It Safe Blog about his new car and his driving experience.

Known for its daring design, all wheel drive and twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 which cranks out over 400 horsepower, this beast of a car is the SUV for those drivers who still want the feel of a smaller speedster, which perfectly matches with the 215 pound Cribbs, as he is faster than most guys that are half his size (if you don’t believe me, ask the Kansas City Chiefs, who he torched for two kickoff-return touchdowns on December 20).

“I picked this car because you don’t see many on the road,” Cribbs said. “It’s fast and sleek and I just like the uniqueness of it.” While fast and sleek are two words that easily describe Cribbs, on the field he pictures himself to be more like a different German automaker. “On the field I resemble a Porsche. I’m quick, shifty, and powerful,” said Cribbs.

img_cribbs4 While the BMW runs roughly $65,000 off the lot, Cribbs has tinted out the SUV, added two LCD screens on the back of the red leather front seats, installed a running board, while he still has plans to make additional changes. Cribbs said, “I’m about to get some black rims on it. That way, when you roll up it turns heads and everyone looks at you.”

Growing up in Washington, D.C., Cribbs drove many cars, and while none were as nice as his current ride, he has fond memories of the cars of years past. “The first car I ever owned was an ‘86 Chevy Nova, then I had a ‘95 Lincoln Continental,” Cribbs said. “The first car I ever drove was a Nissan minivan which was pretty practical, but I felt like I could do better than that. As time grew, I did better. My favorite one was a ‘95 Chevy Caprice. In D.C., we call it a ‘bubble’ because it had big couch seats and it was easy for dating. You had a girl sit next to you and they would slide on turns.”

img_cribbs3 While the X6 lacks bubble seats, it does boast a great sound system where Cribbs likes to play gospel and jazz music. “Jazz makes me feel smooth”, Cribbs said.  I took a history of jazz class in college and I like (John) Coltrane.”While Cribbs may be smooth on and off the field, he is also fast, something that translates to his driving style. “I’m fast on the road because I’m always late”, Cribbs added. Though he has the ability to go fast at any time, Cribbs still considers himself to be a safe driver, as he always carries auto insurance and pays attention to the road.  Cribbs may be occasionally late, but he has arrived right on time for the Browns, becoming one of the teams most popular players and biggest offensive threats thanks to his ability in the open field as well as the open road.img_cribbs7 img_cribbs6 img_cribbs5
