Many new automobile driving laws are now in effect in the state of Texas. Driving through a school zone while using a cell phone could now result in a $200 fine. A cell phone is permitted only if the vehicle is stopped or if a hands-free device is used. Another new law prohibits someone under the age of 18 from texting or talking on a cell phone while driving. Also, every person in a vehicle must wear a seatbelt, regardless of age or where they are seated in the car.
A previous law, required in all states, exclaims that all motor vehicle drivers must carry auto insurance in the form of Bodily Injury Coverage and Property Damage Coverage. Heavy fines may come about if a driver is uninsured, as well as a possibility of loss of your license. Statistics suggest that even the safest drivers will be involved in an accident at some point.
In 2008, Texas began the TexasSure program. This allows all law enforcement vehicles to see if a vehicle is insured by entering their license plate number into the police cruiser’s on-board computer system. According to the Texas Department of Insurance, more than three million cars are questioned by TexasSure every month.
It’s important to play it safe by always making sure you have at least the state required minimum limit auto insurance.
