The 4th annual Buckeyes Got Talent contest was won by the now 3-time champion Track team. Performing a medley of fast-paced dance routines, the Ohio State men's and women's track team combined forces to take home the win. They were not without stiff competition, as OSU football player Evan Blankenship sang his way solo to a second place finish, followed by Men's Volleyball player Eric Dates, who showed off his amazing guitar skills to the amazement of the judges.
Speaking of, the judges panel was filled with celebrities including NBA star and former Buckeye Michael Redd, Columbus Blue Jacket defenseman Mike Commodore, and Justin Case, the Solution Specialist for SafeAuto Insurance. The judges commented on each performance, American Idol-style, though they generally had nothing but praise for each of the 10 acts of the night.
All in all, it was a great display of skills by the student athletes. Acts ranged from Blankenship’s serious crooning, to the rifle team’s (yes, OSU has a Division One rifle team) humorous dance number complete with blown up faces of such celebrities like Presidents Obama and Bush, Hillary Clinton, Peter Griffin and Brian doing “Peanut Butter Jelly Time” and of course the internet meme Numa Numa boy.
Proceeds from the event went to the Boys and Girls Club of Columbus. In all, almost $10,000 was raised thanks to sponsorships by SafeAuto Insurance and Michael Redd, as well as ticket sales.
