Columbus, Ohio—Safe Auto Insurance Company begins selling auto insurance in California as of September 12, expanding its footprint coast to coast with coverage in 17 states. The company enters the nation’s largest auto insurance market partnered with over 1,800 insurance brokers across the state.
“Writing business in California is a logical extension of SafeAuto’s business,” said CEO Ron Davies. “It’s the largest auto insurance market in the country with over $19 billion in annual premiums. Additionally, California gives us a coast-to-coast presence that we need as we continue to grow.”
SafeAuto launches its program in California through a partnership with SCJ Insurance Services, which has nearly 40 years of experience specializing in non-standard auto insurance in the California marketplace. The company’s policies in California are sold only through brokers, establishing a new way for the auto insurer to reach new markets. The expansion builds on a successful brick-and-mortar retail store strategy SafeAuto has been testing since opening a storefront in January at 1969 E. Dublin Granville Road in Columbus, Ohio.
“We want to serve customers and provide them the opportunity to be served where and how they want,” said VP of Customer Demand and Experience Charlie Kordes. “And that means whether that is over the phone, online, in a store or through a broker.”
SafeAuto Insurance Company is a leader in affordable auto insurance coverage and one of America’s largest privately owned property and casualty insurance carriers. Founded in 1993, SafeAuto has written more than 5.7 million policies for drivers in 17 states. SafeAuto is based in Columbus, Ohio, and employs nearly 1,000 associates across the country.
